While China is a Buddhist country (in theory), I think it is difficult to find actual practicing vegetarians among the common people. When I have talked about "vegetarianism" with Chinese, they mostly reference it as a diet of monks and "older women."

It depends on where you go. If you go to the high mountains like Inner Mongolia, you'd have a tough time. On the flip side, many poor rural areas you can't survive if you are NOT a vegetarian. All you got is rice and vegetables in some places.

Yes. Especially bigger cities like Shanghai or Beijing. If you are into street food, you can also request the vendor to customise your food with no meet as many of my colleagues did during our stay in China.

You could also eat at speciality restaurants. If you are into Indian food, you could find Indian restaurants that serve vegetarian food.
