Default Is a Nintendo DSi in Australia the same as a Nintendo DSi in the US?

I'm in Australia right now. Next week I'm flying home to the US. I want to buy a Nintendo DSi to keep myself occupied on the flight. The problem is that I don't want to buy it if it isn't compatible in the US. I know some video game systems use regional encoding to prevent people from importing or exporting games to avoid paying the local prices. Is this the same with the DSi?Thanks, but I'm looking for facts, not opinions. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

i know you can't play Australian games in an American Nintendo Wii or 64, and the other way around. It is probably the same for the nintendo DSi.

I have a DSi and i know that you can play games from a certain region in a DSi from a different region. Wikipedia says: "Nintendo has reported that the DSi uses region locking for DSi-specific software, since the handheld provides Internet services tailored individually for each region and it uses rating-based parental controls, which differ by country. However, certain elements are region-free: Internet browsing, photo sharing and Nintendo DS software." If I were you, i would wait to get a DSi until you were back in the states.
