Default Cahill's latest Aussie landmark for those ages

Perhaps most notably, he's Australia's first-ever FIFA World Cupô goalscorer and has totalled five goals across three campaigns. buy fifa coins ps3 It's a feat some of soccer's greatest ever names have not been in a position to better -- Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among them.

Currently Cahill is on the cusp of another groundbreaking landmark. If he take the field on Sunday in the Socceroos' make-or-break FIFA Confederations Cup match against Chile, he'll become the first outfield player to represent Australia 100 times.

It is a striking statistic on many levels. As recently as the 1990s, the national record stood at just 65.

"I will not be emotional throughout the game, I believe you get emotional after it," Cahill said on the eve of the game in Moscow. "If anything, I want to set it in the back of my mind since the onus is on this game."

Chile defeated Australia 3-1 in the 2014 World Cup and, nearly always, it had been Cahill who climbed to the significant event to score his team's goal.
Yet, it could have been very different, with Cahill denied permission to play Australia until the age of 24, after a short look for Samoa as a 14-year-old.
"It's a very long time ago back to Samoa and being published to play for Australia, but it's been an incredible journey," Cahill said, adding that scoring Australia's first-ever World Cup goal [in 2006] has been his most memorable global match.

"It was a tearful moment [being cleared] since you do everything to be a professional footballer, and also to be told you can't play for your country .... It is a major thing. My journey, which was astonishing, could have been quite different."

Now at the back end of the career, Cahill is without doubt Australia's most famous footballer. Coach Ange Postecoglou attracted only a sign of a split from Cahill in the pre-match media conference, since he paid tribute to the Socceroo star.

"It is not only about football, he is a wonderful Australian, who conquers sport," said Postecoglou. "Hopefully, recognition isn't only from the soccer community, but in the country as a whole. He scored at three World Cups, and if that isn't world class, I do not know what's."

Though 37, Cahill seems to have barely aged a day. So will he return in Russia in 12 months' time, should Australia make World Cup qualification?
"I never take anything for granted," he explained. "I treat every camp like it's my last. cheap ps3 fifa 17 coins It would be selfish to check towards another World Cup, and it would be selfish of any of the players, since the next match is all that matters for now."
